In order to obtain the SrMo0 4 precursor phase, the samples were milled using a high energy ball milling at 1800 rpm in an 8000 M Spex Mixer for 6. 03 μηι. The weight change during experiments was recorded at 1 s intervals. Twenty mg of powder were used inside an alumina crucible suspended from one arm of the balance. The temperature of the furnace was measured by a Pt-10%Rh (S type) thermocouple placed below the crucible. The working gases flows were individually regulated using mass flow controllers.

EXPERIMENTAL The chosen material specifications belong to the material class HT-P10 (IS05I3 1992-06), which contains a large amount of Ti(C,N) and has a low content of other carbides. This application class fits particularly for the machining of steel and cast steel with high cutting speed and low feed rate.
