Thus it might be argued that the beginnings of al-Kalām, which reflected intellectual activity of Arabo-Islamic society, implied political and social interests expressed within an ethical framework. In the context of this chapter it will be clarified that while the first disputes raised in Islam were political – concerning the issue of imāmate, or the “religious and political authority” – the first theoretical arguments of al-kalām were mainly ethical.
